About Clive Palmer

Clive Palmer is an Austrailian billionaire who made his fortune in real estate and coal mining. He owns many mining buisinesses such as Mineralogy, Waratah Coal and Yabulu nickel refinery near Townsville. He also owns a gas and oil concession off Papua New Guinea, and Blue Star Line through which he is building the Titanic replica that will set sail in 2016.

He has two children with his first wife Susan, whom he lost to cancer in 2006 after a 22 year mariage. His current wife, Anna, also lost her husband to cancer in 2006. Together they have two children.

World's Best Boss

In 2010 Palmer handed out $10 million in gifts to his 800 Townsville nickel refinery staff, including a fleet of 55 Mercedes-Benz cars and 700 overseas holidays.

Clive's Other Investments

He owned a soccer team, Gold Coast United FC from 2008 until its demise in 2012. He also owns a number of resorts, which include Palmer Coolum Resort on the Sunshine Coast, Palmer Sea Reef Golf Course at Port Douglas, Palmer Colonial Golf Course at Robina, Palmer Gold Coast Golf Course at Robina and the former Club Med in Tahiti.

He even has plans to build the world's biggest dinosaur exhibit, creating a simulated Jurassic Park, at his Palmer Coolum Resort at the Sunshine Coast. He also installed Jeff the Dinosaur - an 8 meters tall, 20 meters long, Tyrannosaurus Rex with his own Twitter account @JefftheTRex.

He is also the founder and director of the Palmer Care Foundation, a charitable foundation established in Australia which has pledged $100 million for the advancement of medical research and the support of indigenous communities in Western Australia.

He also sponsors a number of sporting teams.

Other Accomplishments

In June 2002, Palmer was appointed Adjunct Professor of Business at Deakin University's Faculty of Business and Law, a role he held until 2006. In 2008 Palmer was appointed Adjunct Professor of Management at Bond University on the Gold Coast.

Palmer was made an Australian national living treasure by the National Trust in 2012.

At age 59, he stood for the Sunshine Coast seat of Fairfax after forming the Palmer United Party (PUP). A Galaxy poll in 2012 found that 38 percent of voters supported his intention to begin a new political outfit.

He often quotes JFK during press conferences, and in 2013, decided to campaign to become prime minister. His plans included contesting all 150 House of Representatives seats and appointing a Senate team in each state and territory.
